In 2025, IICA Panama, in collaboration with the consulting firm SMA, carried out a consulting project commissioned by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) as part of the technical assistance provided to the Government of Panama under the “Tourism Sector Competitiveness and Resilience Program II” (PN-L1187).
Study Objective: To develop comprehensive proposals to diversify Panama’s tourism offerings by leveraging its potential in agrotourism and green tourism. This includes the development of specific strategies for tourism in protected areas and agrotourism, with the aim of promoting socioeconomic growth, job creation, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
Applicant clients:
- Inter-American Development Bank (IDB): Provider of technical assistance and financing for the development of the tourism sector in Panama.
- Government of Panama: The beneficiary of the consulting services, represented by the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) and other government agencies such as the Ministry of Agricultural Development, the Ministry of the Environment, and PROMTUR.
The consulting project lasted nine months and involved the delivery of five main deliverables, including reports, strategies, and executive presentations, which were reviewed and approved by the focal points designated by the IDB and the ATP. (Participants: Marvin Blanco and Evans Canto)
